A CAMPAIGN to raise funds for a four-year-old Wrexham girl with an inoperable brain tumour has been ramped up after her latest scan results.

Today (May 17) is DIPG Awarness Day - and it is a particuarly poignant day for one Wrexham family.

Aria Hodgkiss, from Rhostyllen, was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) - a tumour in her brain stem - on the day of her third birthday.

After recently celebrating her fourth birthday, her family was given the awful news that the tumour has grown following her latest scan.

The Leader:

Aria has been in receipt of a new style of treatment, called ONC201, as part of a clinical trial out of Germany.

The Leader:

Her family are now in the process of buying another type of the medication - the ONC206, which Aria's mum, Mel, says is "ten times stronger".

She said: "So, we have received the devastaing news that Aria's tumour has started to grow again. We are not sure by how much but it's growing.

"After a lot of crying and thinking we have decided to do radiotherapy one more time. Also we are looking into ONC206 and other possibilities.

"We are not done fighting this monster yet. Like another DIPG parent said to me - I can't change the outcome of the scan but I can change what happens from now on."

Aria's family are looking to raise as many funds as possible - with the treatment costing them tens of thousands of pounds as it's not available on the NHS.

Mel added: "We are fighting and we will fight hard.

"Thank you for supporting us - it means so much."
