A MAN has been ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work following a vandalism spree in a Powys town that caused more than £7,000 worth of damage.

The total amount of damage inflicted by Kieron Jones on the night of June 24 last year was £7,519; the 20-year-old terrorised a slew of businesses in Brecon by smashing windows and plant pots and even burgled one shop.

Appearing at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates' Court on Friday, April 29, Jones admitted a total of nine offences – including seven counts of criminal damage. He also admitted burglary and possessing cannabis.

The spree of vandalism by Jones, of Woollin Avenue, Wakefield, included smashing a window belonging to Brecon Bridal Boutique that was valued at £4,500, while damage to another window, at Adela's, a ladies fashion shop, caused £2,268 damage.

Jones also stole a Godiva prom dress worth £79 from Adela’s, while damage to a window and plant pots belonging to David Morgan was valued at £340; a window belonging to Robin Sheehy that was damaged was valued at £132; a plant pot belonging to Flowers by Becca Jane was damaged, worth £100, with a window damaged at the Old Library, owned by Powys County Council, also valued at £100; Jones also damaged a window to the value of boarding up costs belonging to Susan Quarrell.

Magistrates made a 12-month community order, telling Jones he has to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

For the burglary charge, Jones was ordered to pay a £95 surcharge as well as £85 costs. There was no separate penalty for the drugs charge but the cannabis was ordered to be destroyed.
