A MAN from Newtown has been fined after he rode an electric scooter without 'L' plates or insurance.
Thomas Foy, 26, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates' Court after he used a Mi Electric Scooter in Lon Masarn on October 29, last year.
He was found guilty on April 25.
The court was told he had no insurance to use the scooter, which is classed as a motor vehicle, and that although he had a provisional licence he was not displaying 'L' plates.
Although the electric scooters being trailed in cities around the country do no require 'L' plates, those which can travel over a certain speed require insurance and 'L' plates, or a compulsory basic training licence.
Foy, of Lon Rhosod, Newtown, Powys, received six penalty points and was fined £660 for the insurance charge.
He must also pay £90 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge.
No separate penalty was given for not displaying the 'L' plates.
