"Mindless" vandals have smashed a stained glass window at a town centre chapel in Newtown.

It is believed that the incident happened at the Crescent Presbyterian Chapel, also known as the Crescent Christian Centre, in Milford Road overnight on Thursday, April 21, and Friday, April 22.

Police have appealed for the public's help to share any information that could help with the criminal damage investigation.

"The damage has been deliberately caused to the lead and glass to the Crescent side elevation," Dyfed-Powys Police said.

"This mindless damage has destroyed a WW1 memorial which was part of the stained glass window."

The window was erected in 1919 as a tribute and memorial to Rev. Edward Parry who had been the minister at the chapel for more than 40 years. He had overseen the building of the Crescent in 1878. Edward Parry had died in 1919 in a fire at Ael-y-bryn.

The chapel is the second place of worship in Newtown that has been targeted in recent weeks in which several windows at St David's Church, New Road were also smashed.

Anyone has any information regarding the damage at Crescent chapel is urged to either call 101, report it online or email 101@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk and quote reference number DPP/5301/22/04/2022/02/C.
