A CROYDON man received a warm welcome when he arrived in Builth Wells last week following a gruelling bid to raise money for charity.

By the time Keith Murkin reached the Mid Wales market town he’d completed a torturous 325-kilometre journey by bike (223 miles). It’s all in the name of others as Keith has already raised more than £2,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Keith had been aiming to complete the trek – which will include a little more than 20 hours of cycling – in four days. In the end he pushed the pace and made it to Powys in just two, where he was met in Builth by supporters, including his sister Alison Rollinson, who lives here. He also made it in time to catch up for a pint with friend Gary Watts who runs the White Hart pub.

“I’m doing this for a truly great charity,” says Keith on his JustGiving page, which has raised £2,215 so far.

“Make-A-Wish UK grant magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.

“Granting their wish provides seriously ill children with hope for the future, strength to cope and resilience to fight their condition. They’re given quality time away from the daily realities of living with their condition and given the chance to make magical memories they can treasure forever – whatever their future may hold.
“We want to transform the lives of 1,000 children this year by granting their one true wish.”
