Pupils from across north Powys are celebrating reaching the finals of the Urdd Eisteddfod.

Eleven primary schools and four secondary schools will be representing Montgomeryshire in several competitions from singing to acting, dancing to cooking, at the popular cultural youth festival.

The Urdd Eisteddfod will be held during May half term (May 30 to June 4) in Denbigh; the first in-person festival since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Here is a list of schools and competitors who will be representing Montgomeryshire next month.

Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd, Newtown

Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd will be representing the county in seven competitions at this year's Urdd Eisteddfod.

“What a fantastic day!” said headteacher, Darryn Green. “We pride ourselves in celebrating all Welsh events at Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd but for the first time, we opened our doors to schools from the local area for the regional Eisteddfod competition.

"It was a pleasure to do this after a very challenging time for everyone and I’d like to thank everyone for their support and for helping in any way.
