A MEMBER of the 579 Llandrindod Wells Air Cadets has set herself the challenge of swimming 10k throughout the month for her beloved club.

Cdt Cerys Jones is aiming to get as many donors as possible to be in with a chance of gaining a 'local heroes' award towards the bus fund.

She said: "This means I will swim 125 lengths per week, completing 500 in total by the end of the month.

"This will challenge me to commit to regular swimming, either early morning or late evening."

Cerys said all donations would be gratefully received.

She said: "Please donate what you can towards this project, so that we can use the bus to go to lots of new and exciting activities."

Remarkably Cerys stood on the verge of reaching her target of £350 thanks to online donations through her fundraising page.

A Cadets spokesman added: "Many of our activities especially flying and gliding, adventure training, fieldcraft and sports take place away from our HQ and we need a minibus to transport the cadets to these activities and events.

"Without the use of a bus cadets would not be able to enjoy these activities and their development and progress within our programme would be severely restricted.

"Our present bus is on its last wheels and feeling the strain of its age. We are fundraising to replace the bus. This is a major undertaking for our group so any donation would go towards this replacement bus."
