Newtown's Miss Junior Teen GB finalist has been described by an MP as an "inspiration" during a visit to Westminster.

Scarlett Davies will be representing Powys at the nationwide beauty pageant in Blackpool later this year.

During a visit to London, the teen saw the Prime Minister give a speech in the House of Commons on the situation in Ukraine, including sanctions on Russian banks and individuals.

"It was a sad topic but a surreal experience," Scarlett said.

Scarlett met Powys' two MPs - Craig Williams and Fay Jones. The Brecon and Radnorshire MP described Scarlett as an "inspiration" and "doing Powys proud".

While Montgomeryshire MP Craig Williams said: "I’m always keen to encourage young people to take a keen interest in public life."

The Llanidloes High School student has also been busy fundraising for a charity that supports seriously ill children. She has so far raised almost £700 for the Together for Short Lives.

Scarlett says she intends to visit Powys towns throughout her reigning year, and she is looking forward to meeting locals and finding out more information about each town.
