THE next phase in the development of girls football in mid Wales will begin on March 1.

An online forum will begin via Zoom at 7pm when club officials and coaches discuss the possibilities of further developing girls football in the region.

Organiser Paul Inns said: "Girls football has gained huge popularity in recent years, nowhere more so than Central Wales.

"The aim of the evening will be to open up discussions on what currently works well, what are the challenges and how we can support new opportunities for girls to play football in Central Wales, as well as a discussion about the format of the U12, U14 and U16 Central Wales Girls Cups, which we intend to organise before the end of the season.

Meanwhile Berriew Football Club host the first Powys Girls Football Festival of the year, on Sunday, March 6.

Organiser, Paul Inns, said: "We will once again be offering the opportunity to all girls to play football – from U6 up to U16 – throughout the day, with the U6/8/10’s from 10-11.00am; U12/16 from 11am-12.30pm and U14 from 12.30pm to 2pm.

Any girls are welcome to come along and get involved – whether they are a member of a club or not.

"In addition, we will also be running a women’s 5 aside from 4pm. If any ladies teams would like to take part, or, if any women aren’t a member of a club but would simply like to have a go at playing football, then feel free to come along on the day."
