A care home in Newtown celebrated Valentine’s Day with a Ball for its residents who were wined and dined a three-course meal.

Staff at The Oaks decorated the home with hearts, pink and red themed balloons and red roses and invited residents to dress up for a fun afternoon of dancing, singing and games.

Afterwards, John Hughes ‘The Singing Farmer’ from Pentre Gaer, near Meifod arrived to perform for the residents in the home’s café bar lounge.

Daniel Hart, care home manager, said: “I get excited to put on this event every year at The Oaks as this generation has had the toughest love with losing partners at war and old age.

“It is a special time for us to celebrate the love that has been, love for friends and family and for the ones that we have lost.

“As well as the Valentine’s Day Ball, we have been making personalised family, friends and loved ones cards that have been sent out in the post to them followed by some home-made decorative brooches that were worn for the ball.”

The 73-bedroom care home is part of the Sandstone Care Group which provides resident-led care within a modern setting.
