TOM Williams has spoken of his pride after representing Wales in the Malaga Sevens last weekend.

The Montgomery raised star was among the more senior players in Richie Pugh’s squad to take part in the latest round of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

Wales lost 38-10 to France, 26-7 to Canada and 34-5 to Spain while beating Kenya 19-14 and Germany 27-14

Coach Richie Pugh said: “We’re ahead of where we thought we’d be and there are reasons to be optimistic. We’re frustrated with results which when we take a step back the reality is we’ve only been together with two weeks prep.”

Williams said: “It was a great honour to be named in the Welsh squad. Having recently played for GB Sevens it’s been great being back in a Welsh set-up with some exciting new players.

“The Malaga tournament had some positives but we will hopefully improve for Seville with the new players gaining more experience and becoming more comfortable at this level.

“We have a group involving England France and Japan so will be challenging but a great opportunity to hopefully make the quarter finals from the group.”
