COBRA Rugby Club will compete in the Welsh Premiership Women's League this year.

The Meifod club's outstanding progress since forming just six years ago has continued this season with the club flying high in the north Wales competitions.

Now the club can look forward to the next chapter in their history.

This will include a higher level of rugby and facing more teams from south Wales with the season beginning on February 20.

Coach Rhodri Davies said: "I am extremely pleased with how the squad is developing.

"We’ve been able to give debuts to a lot of new recruits this season showing the team is growing. We’re all very excited about the challenges that lie ahead in the second half of the season."

"With young players also coming through the Rebels system, the future remains bright at COBRA Ladies," added chairman Alun Pryce.

"We as a club are very proud of our ladies team and what they’ve achieved over the past few years.

"Since they formed six years ago under the great leadership of Rhodri Davies, they’ve become a force to be reckoned with. With a squad of 40 odd players and keeps increasing, it’s a testament to the coaching staff and players."

The club will be joined in the Welsh Premiership by Caernarfon who the Meifod side hosted earlier this month in a new kit donated by sponsors Alun Williams Electrical Contractor, Severn Windows and Llaeth y Bont.

A large crowd watched Ffion Williams' try ensure the sides were level at the break.

However Caernarfon turned the screw after the break and led with two quickfire tries before Siony Rudd barged over from close range to reduce the arrears.

The game was eventually settled after a fourth try from the visitors who returned home 24-10 winners.

COBRA bounced back in emphatic style with a 77-0 thrashing of Abergele on Sunday.

Strong carrying and performances from Rebels academy players Ffion Worthington, Meg Wigley and Daisy Elizabeth Evans boosted the Meifod side while captain and No8 Libby Jones crossed for a hat-trick.

Ffion Williams and Daisy Elizabeth Evans each crossed for two tries while Grace Manford, Annie Fairclough, Siony Rudd and debutant Kerry Hazeldine also crossed the whitewash.

Elin Green and player of the match Jaya Whittingham completed the scoring with a fine day with their boots.

The ladies look ahead to the challenges of their new Welsh Premiership league. The North Wales final will be played in the Principality Stadium later on in the season.
