Powys County Council asked in the County Times are you prepared to pay more council tax – it does not seem that we have much choice.

I for one will be struggling what with energy prices some national newspapers claim could double come April and food prices most certainly will be risen also (and the latter most certainly linked with Brexit).

I am a state pensioner, which the the multi millionaire Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak nor the PM never even mentioned at the Conservative Party annual Conference held in Manchester, back in October 2021.

I did hear him say on the national news how proud he was having voted for Brexit and UK leaving the EU.

The government effectively broke a contract by removing the triple lock that some newspapers claim is suspended for a year, although already a government official has claimed will be at least two years.

We would not be surprised it never returns that was introduced by the Liberal Democrats when formed a coalition with David Cameron’s Conservative Party.

A number of Brexiteer Conservatives included some in the House of Lords said on public record should go and this was long before the Covid-19 was even heard of.

It is certainly going to create some financial hardship this coming year and in 2023.

So returning to the opening question no I don’t think we should pay more council tax and how about the thousands of other people in Welshpool alone paying something towards the services.

I know some who could afford £50-a week wouldn’t even miss it on £20,000 gross per annum benefit (with no children to feed) free from income tax of course paying neither rent or council tax and not the only ones
