A RESIDENT of Castle Caereinon has raised more than £600 for charity.

To mark the occasion of turning 80 years old, Richard Roberts cycled 11 miles around Lake Vyrnwy to raise money for two local charities.

The recipients of the money raised by Richard’s sponsored boke ride were the Montgomeryshire branch of Parkinson’s UK and the Welshpool community group of Dementia Friends.

In total, Richard raised £654 for both charities.

Parkisnon’s UK carries out a number of roles relating to Parkinson’s, such as influencing and funding research, providing expert information and support for those living with the condition, as well as raising awareness and changing perceptions of the disease.

The second charity, Dementia Friendly, a programme run by Alzheimer’s UK. The initiative encourages everyone to share responsibility for ensuring that people with dementia feel understood, valued and like contributing members of their communities.

The Dementia Friendly scheme aims to achieve its goals through raising awareness of the condition amongst the general public, creating a wider dementia friendly movement.

The checks were accepted on behalf of both charities by representatives Gwyneth Evans and Joyce Howells.

Richard said: “I want to extend a grateful thanks to all who gave so generously in support of such worthy causes.”
