Residents and visitors to Bishop's Castle are being urged to have their say on the future of public toilets in the town centre.

The Town Council is looking for funding to refurbish the public toilets at the Auction Yard.

The alternatives, it says, would be to leave the toilets in its current condition or shut it for good.

People are being asked to share their views on matters such as whether they would be happy to see the toilets closed, or the Town Council using money from a long term, low interest loan.

The toilets were transferred from Shropshire Council to the Town Council in April 2011 with a one-off grant to assist with maintenance and upkeep.

The Town Council said: "However, some 10 years later the infrastructure and condition of the facility has deteriorated somewhat. Part for the automated systems are becoming more expensive and harder to source since the company that installed them ceased trading.

"With the above in mind we are exploring grant or loan funding to provide a refit and refurbishment of them but in order to secure this we have to provide examples of consultation with the public to gauge the depth of feeling for this commitment. The alternatives would be to leave them as they are or to seek to close them."

A consultation feedback form can be found on the Bishop's Castle Town Council website.
