GIRLS football continues to flourish in Powys.

While TNS, Llanfair United and Welshpool Town represent the region in senior competitions nationally or in north Wales, Llandrindod Wells Football Club has long been the club to emulate in mid Powys.

On Sunday Llandrindod Girls football club hosted Talgarth Town for an under 8s and under 6s football session.

Llandrindod Wells’ Katie Christopher ran the fun football session followed by a match between the clubs.

For most girls this was their first experience of playing a match against another club, especially for the under sixes.

A club spokesperson said: “To see Talgarth bringing over 20 players along, is fantastic, and hopefully the two clubs will continue to develop girls football in south Powys.

“The majority of the players had not played a game before and it’s so nice to see Talgarth with teams, and involving them in Powys football.

Talgarth Town Football Club thanked their neighbours for hosting the event

A spokesman said: “A great morning of football for our under 6s and under 8s, so much fun. Thank you to Llandrindod Wells for hosting us.”

It is hoped further fun camps and festivals will take place in 2022 as the country moves out of social distancing restrictions and work continues to develop the women’s and girls game in Powys.
