THE number of coronavirus infections has decreased in Powys, new figures show.

Data released today (Wednesday, January 19) confirmed 43 further cases reported in the last 24.

This is in comparison to 131 cases in the 24 hours up to Wednesday, January 12.

In total there have been an additional 420 cases confirmed in Powys over the last seven days.

The rate of infection in Powys now stands at 16,660 cases per 100,000 people, far lower than the Wales average of 23,622.

Across the UK, the number of recorded cases increased by 107,450 over the period, to 15,506,750.

People with a positive lateral flow test no longer need to take a follow-up PCR test to confirm the result in England unless they have coronavirus symptoms.

UK case numbers currently only include LFT results for England and Northern Ireland, with lateral flow testing data for Scotland due to be added in the coming weeks.
