A RETIRED farmer from Llanfyllin who was airlifted to hospital after being injured by a cow last year is to have his ordeal featured on a national television programme.

Eric Morris of Glanllyn, who is 87 years old, will appear on programme to be broadcast on Channel 5 on February 3 at 9pm.

The programme, 999 Critical Condition, will cover the accident Mr Morris experienced in August 2021, when he was badly injured when a cow charged at him as he was tending a calf.

The local air ambulance flew him to Stoke University Hospital where he underwent two major operations.

Mr Morris said: “I was air lifted to Stoke, where they happened to be filming the programme. The producer approached me and asked for my permission to film my operation and document what had happened, which I agreed to.

“I was so drugged up at the time that I’d completely forgotten about it until a week later. They filmed a quick follow up after I left the hospital to check up on how I was doing.”

Eric’s wife, Pamela Morris, said: “Eric had to have two operations when he arrived at Stoke. One was an emergency operation carried out immediately after he arrived, and the other was a few days later to repair his ribs.”

Mrs Morris also stated that she hoped this would serve as a warning to others about the dangers people face in the farming industry.

She added: “We want people to be aware of the dangers around handling cattle and how simple mistakes can happen.

"Even after years of farming experience and with Eric at the age of 87 we still made a mistake.”

Months after the accident and operations, Mrs Morris described her husband as “making a very good recovery.”
