RESIDENTS in the areas of Bwlch-y-Sarnau and Abbeycwmhir are being encouraged by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to air their views on a new plan to manage the Coed Sarnau Forest block.

NRW – which manages the Welsh Government Woodland Estate across Wales – is holding a public consultation to allow the views of residents to influence the future management of the forest, between Llandrindod Wells and Rhayader, for the next 10 years and beyond.

The main objectives of the plan include removing larch and to diversify the forest species composition; this will increase the forest’s resilience to pests and diseases. The plan also aims to improve the visitor experience by providing a safe and enjoyable environment.

Becky Hares, senior land management officer for NRW, said: “Well managed forests benefit everyone and everything, from biodiversity and the environment to the economy and culture.

“In this plan, we want residents in the area to have their say on our plans to continue sustainable forest management within the forest block.

“We urge residents to have a look at the plans and to have their say on them.”

Residents can find the plans and respond to the consultation by visiting NRW’s consultation website at https://ymgynghori.cyfoethnaturiol.cymru/forest-planning-cynllunio-coedwig/coed-sarnau-forest-resource-plan.

Alternatively, residents can call 0300 065 3000 and ask to speak with one of the senior land management officers responsible for the consultations. From there they will be able to send out hard copies of the documents on request.

Residents who want to send feedback by post can send it to: Natural Resources Wales, Powells Place, Powells Lane, Welshpool, Powys, SY21 7JY.

All feedback and questions will need to be returned by February 20 at the latest.
