A cancer support charity will be running a pilot project at Llanidloes War Memorial Hospital.

The Bracken Trust said the project is an additional service which provides registered nursing support to patients who need to have their consultant appointments remotely.

The Llandrindod Wells-based charity said it is "delighted" to run the pilot, alongside Powys Teaching Health Board, at three Powys hospitals that currently commission cancer services.

The free service aims to reduce travel time and costs. It also involves having someone to arrange the technical aspects of the remote appointment, as well as having someone with the person affected by cancer during the call.

The Bracken Trust said: "The service could be accessed at our main centre in Llandrindod Wells or at any one of our hubs in Llanwrtyd Wells, Knighton or Llanidloes.

"If none of those options are accessible to you, we may be able to support you in your own home, so long as you have adequate internet connection and a good telephone signal.

"The additional option would, however, only be available to patients who love within an hour's travel of Llandudno Wells."

The Bracken Trust supports anyone affected by cancer including those who have experienced a bereavement in the mid Wales and border areas.
