A FLOOD alert for the River Severn in parts of Powys has been removed after level peaked overnight.

Natural Resources Wales removed the alert for the Upper Severn through Buttington, Newtown and Llanidloes earlier this morning.

Meanwhile, the Environment Agency has maintain its alert for the Severn Vyrnwy confluence where river levels remain high as a result of heavy rainfall.

A spokesperson said: "As a result, flooding of roads and farmland is expected. Flooding is expected to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the river from the Welsh border at Llawnt to Shrawardine near Shrewsbury including the B3493 near Llansantffraid Bridge.

"Other locations that may be affected include Llanymynech, Maesbrook and Melverley."

And NRW has maintained its alert for the River Vyrnwy, River Tanat, River Cain and their tributaries with the B4393 near Llansantffraid Bridge potentially facing disruption.

Alerts are also in place for the Dyfi catchment near Machynlleth.
