Young farmers from across north Powys have been showing off their skills in a series of competitions rounding off another successful year.
Montgomery YFC have excelled in the local and national competitions including the County Eisteddfod and the Royal Welsh Winter Fair.
"Montgomery YFC would like to wish all members and followers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and thank all the members for their patience and dedication in what has been a challenging period," a county spokesperson said.
As the year begins to draw to a close, the county YFC has round-up some of their end-of-year highlights.
County Eisteddfod
Following a rather different County Eisteddfod to what was planned, it was great to see Montgomery YFC members back on the stage again and representing the County at the Wales YFC Eisteddfod in Pontrhydfendigaid on November 20.
Soloists, duets and groups took to the stage with Aberhafesp YFC winning the contemporary dance and Dyffryn Banw YFC gaining first prize with the Cerdd Dant Party to only name a few.
Montgomery YFC came equal first place in the Homework Section and equal fourth place in the overall Eisteddfod – what great success!
Royal Welsh Winter Fair
There wasn’t much of a break before the members were back out competing again in the Winter Fair at Builth Wells.
Members put on their white coats for a full two days of competing from stock judging competitions, decorating a Christmas tree to poultry boning and jointing.
It was great to see Montgomery YFC members having more success with the butcher’s beef stock judging team gaining first place and Fflur Roberts, of Llanfair Caereinion YFC winning the Prime Lamb Supreme Champion.
County Dinner
It’s safe to say it was great to be back in a non-competing environment at our County Dinner; the first time in two years the County could hold the dinner and what better place than 23 Social Newtown.
The theme for this year's dinner was ‘James Bond’ - a welcomed change from our scruffs!
During the dinner, the Activities Committee held an auction that raised over £2,000 in aid of Montgomery YFC. The County would like to thank auctioneer Marc Griffiths and all the individuals and businesses that donated items to the auction.
Telcoms company connect with young farmers
Montgomery YFC along with the Finance and Development Committee had the pleasure of collaborating with Dyfed Telecom.
We were very grateful to receive an iPhone kindly donated by Joe Yeomans at Dyfed Telecom.
The F&D committee decided to use the iPhone as an opportunity to reward our brilliant and dedicated members after what has been a very testing time for us all. The winner was Eleri Robinson of Llanfair Caereinion YFC.
The County and F&D Committee organise a presentation of the iPhone on December 9 at Welshpool Livestock Market where both the County and Dyfed Telecom are based. Thank you to all involved.
