JANUARY is a time for new beginnings, fresh challenges and renewed optimism.

It is also a time to look back at past years and reminisce on what was happening in Powys in January's of the past.

County Times: Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd, Newtown Pic pupils from the school took part in their Urdd Swimming Gala and achieved 1st in the Freestyle Relay. They will now be competing in the Powys final in January. 2004

We begin with Ysgol Dafydd Llwyd in Newtown whose pupils took part in their Urdd 2004 Swimming Gala and achieved first in the Freestyle Relay.

County Times: Libary, Newtown Pic (back) Heulwen Davies, Ursular Donally, Gwyneth Gethin (front) Cledwyn Swancott, Elvira Clark A local Painting for Pleasure group meet weekly at an evening class during the winter months at Cloeg Powys. Any new members are welcome.

Next we venture to 2005 and see Heulwen Davies, Ursula Donally, Gwyneth Gethin, Cledwyn Swancott and Elvira Clark of the Newtown based Painting for Pleasure group.

County Times: Theatre Clera, Welshpool KE45G-2008Pic On Saturday January 26 the North Powys County Youth Brass Band took part in a contest at Cross Quays in Gwent and came 2nd in all of Britain. Their conductor is Steve Edwards.

2008 was a great year for the North Powys County Youth Brass Band which took part in a contest at Cross Quays in Gwent and came second in all of Britain.

In 2012 the Powys High Schools Indoor Athletics Finals were held at Llandrindod Wells Leisure Centre with the Montgomeryshire side pictured.

County Times: Student Succes for Llanidloes High School.
