WATERLOO Rovers bid to steal a march in the MMP-NL Mid Wales League East title race this Christmas.

The Welshpool side has enjoyed a bright campaign and join Abermule and Builth Wells in leading the title race.

Rovers travel to Newtown Wanderers on Saturday before hosting Montgomery Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

Spokesman Dave Proctor said the club was relishing the two local derbies.

"We are looking forward to our trip to Newtown although we know it will be a very tough game as they have improved as the season has gone on.

"We also host Montgomery on December 27 which we know will be another tough game despite their results."

Meanwhile Newtown Wanderers hope for an early Christmas gift by causing a shock on Saturday.

Spokesman Dave Aspinall said: "Rovers are having a good season and we know it will be a tough game.

"However we are playing well at the moment, creating chances, scoring goals and being competitive in every game. We have started to climb the table and we aim to keep that going in 2022.

"Our aim for the season is to stay in the Mid Wales League and we are progressing toward that."
