NEWTOWN make the trip to mid Wales rivals Aberystwyth Town tonight (Friday).

The Robins make the trip as favourites having maintained their superb start to the JD Cymru Premier season with a 2-1 win over Barry Town United last week.

However the Seasiders are currently enjoying their best spell of form in years with manager Antonio Corbisiero and player John Owen winning the monthly league gongs.

Mid Wales bragging rights will also be up for grabs at Park Avenue on Friday night.

Newtown manager Chris Hughes was delighted as two goals in five minutes from James Davies and George Hughes earned his side the spoils against Barry last week.

He said: “We gave away a scrappy goal and it probably summed up our first-half performance.

“We showed a lot more desire and intensity in the second half and deserved the win.

"We had not played a competitive match for two weeks going into the game and that showed in the first-half, we lost too many duels across the pitch.

"We were a lot better after the break and it is always pleasing to come from behind to win. We could have scored more in the end but I was happy with the performance."

Hughes was relishing the festive period, starting with the trip to Aberystwyth.

"We already have more points than we did at the point of the split last season and our aim now is to get as many points on the board as we can before this season's split and see where we are then.

"Aberystwyth will be a tough game, they have found some form lately, so we will need to be at our best."
