A cow shed at a mid Powys farm could be turned into an events space, accommodating up to 120 guests at weddings, if plans are approved.

Powys County Council has been asked if the steel framed barn near Old Radnor – around six-and-a-half miles from Presteigne  – can be converted. Around three events could be held every week, if plans get the green light.

Applicants Stuart Dopson and Miranda Roberts said the barn was the largest of a number near the farmyard and was, until recently, used to house cows.

In a design and access statement submitted to planners on their behalf, Nidus Architects said the proposal would contribute positively and sustainably to the area's existing assets and tourism offer.

It said the site was dominated by rolling pasture and woodland, with a very low density of development and Offa’s Dyke ran along its eastern boundary.

The site itself, consultants said, was rural in nature with the character of a typical mixture of both old and new farm outbuildings made from a mixture of materials such as stone, slate, corrugated tin and cement fibre panels.

The event space would have the potential to accommodate up to 120 guests, the statement said, but most events would only have around 80.

"Due to necessary preparation requirements for events it is anticipated that three events per week at maximum capacity could be accommodated," it said."

Adjacent to the barn, the applicants also wanted to allocate an area of an existing field to camping for guests.

Space and facilities for around 65 people had been allowed in the plans.

There would also be 60 car parking spaces, and separate parking for two catering vans in addition to the food preparation area in the barn.

Comments can be made to Powys County Council on application 21/1801/FUL, with a decision expected at a later date.
