A photographer has won an award for his striking image of the Elan Valley's famous Claerwen Dam, near Rhayader.
Jack James was crowned the winner of the annual photographic competition, run by the Institution of Civil Engineers in Wales (ICE Wales Cymru) which showcases civil engineering projects through the lens of photographers across Wales.
This year’s theme, Doorstep Discoveries, attracted double the number of entries with a very high standard of topics and composition which captured the imagination of the public resulting in a strong vote with the winner a clear favourite.

Jack, a graduate engineer at Mott MacDonald, said: “I’ve always appreciated the dams throughout Elan Valley and hiked around the area many times. However, it’s not often you get the opportunity to witness the dams overflowing so I knew I was on to something special on this particular occasion.
"With a bit of persuasion, my friend very kindly volunteered to stand close to the dam which helps to give anyone looking at the image a true sense of Claerwen Dam’s size and scale”.
The second prize went to Victor Turner for his image of Menai Bridge,and third place was a photograph of Old Colwyn by Topac Oguzhan.
Another photo of the Elan Valley's reservoir system scooped an award with Lydia Morris' image of the Craig Goch Dam named winner of this year's Heritage Award.
