THE arrival of Storm Arwen to the UK on Friday has left much of Mid Wales reeling following power cuts, road chaos and fallen trees blocking access.

With the first storm of the season set to blow through much of Saturday before easing away towards Sunday, roads are slowly starting to reopen across the region.

The A470 northbound near Dolgellau is now reopened following a fallen tree; however, the A494 Rhydymain to Bontnewydd road is closed in both directions because of electric cable sin the road.

The A483 from Llandrindod Wells to Builth Wells is now open after debris forced its closure overnight while further south, the A470 Llyswen to Llanstefan road was passable with care after a tree landed on a vehicle.

Meanwhile, there were trees brought down by the high winds, which hit nearly 100mph in some parts of the UK, with a huge tree in Berriew, near Welshpool, brought down on the B4390.

There was also a tree down blocking the B4392 from Guilsfield to Arddleen while a tree brought down electric lines also.

Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We’re receiving a large amount of weather related calls at the moment across our area. Please drive with care."
