SATURDAY is derby day for Montgomeryshire rugby.

Newtown host Welshpool in Admiral League One North while Machynlleth welcome Llanidloes to Cae Glas in division two.

Bumper gates are expected to brave the forecasted elements for the biggest matches at either venue in two years.

A Newtown RFC spokesman said: "Saturday is a huge milestone in the club's history as this month marks 50 years since we played our first match, coincidentally against the same opposition.

"Newtown will be keen to continue their impressive home form that has seen recent victories against Llanidloes and a first win over Mold in many years.

"With limited activity during the Autumn Internationals, both teams will be keen to get back to action and kick on for the new season."
