POWYS' oldest football fixture will play out its latest chapter tonight.

Newtown host Llanidloes Town at Latham Park in a friendly at Latham Park with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The clubs have been rivals for more than a century but tonight's match was arranged with both clubs keen to maintain fitness on a blank weekend.

Newtown manager Chris Hughes confirmed the fixture would see him utilise several players returning from injury and members of the club under 19s string.

Meanwhile Llanidloes manager Chris Davies hopes to keep up his side's momentum ahead of a busy festive programme.

Davies said: "As both teams had no league fixture this weekend we thought it would be a good idea to arrange a friendly to keep fitness and momentum going.

"Newtown are on a good run at the moment so it will be a very good challenge for us to face them tonight. We’re also on a good run of form as we’re unbeaten in the last four league games and six unbeaten in all competitions so we’re finding some form at the right time."

Davies said December would be a key month to ensure the club climbed the JD Cymru North table.

"We’ve got a crucial December fixture list to navigate and if we can continue to get results we’ll put ourselves in a great position going into the new year and hopefully push ourselves away from the relegation zone and into a more comfortable position," said Davies.

"Games like tonight can be hugely beneficial in many ways and we’re hoping that’ll be the case and it’ll help us as we move into the Christmas period."
