Christmas lights are once again illuminating the night sky following a year’s absence due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

As the festive season approaches, towns across Powys have upcoming switch on events for their Christmas lights and displays.

Here are a list of events confirmed by town councils over the coming weeks.

 

Thursday, November 25

Kerry

All are encouraged to wear festive clothing to watch Kerry Village Christmas tree light up.

The event begins at 6pm, with the switch on taking place at 7pm. It comes complete with Santa, hot drinks and mice pies.

 

Saturday, November 27

Newtown

Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council will be hosting an event this Saturday. A lights display will take place on the Town Hall grounds at 6pm.

This will be followed by the official lights switch on by Newtown Mayor Councillor Richard Williams.

Following this there will be a Christmas market from 5pm to 8pm inside the Bear Lanes Shopping Centre.

Montgomery

A Christmas festival will take place in Montgomery Town Centre. The event runs from 3.30pm to 7pm on Saturday.

The Christmas lights are scheduled to be switched on at 4.30pm.

Local businesses will be present to provide food for the festive occasion, as well as seasonal music performed after the switch on.

Machynlleth

The Machynlleth Christmas Lights will be switched on at 6pm by the Town Clock.

Afterwards the White Lion Hotel is hosting a festive disco in the Main Bar.

Welshpool

Welshpool Town Council is hosting a Winter Festival on Saturday from 3pm to 9pm in Welshpool town centre.

The switching on of the lights will take place at 6pm. But before that there will be different attractions to entertain everyone until the big moment.

 

Friday, December 3

Llanfair Caereinion

The Town Crier of Llanfair Caereinon will switch on the town’s Christmas lights on Friday December 3.

According to town council clerk Robert Robinson, a raffle will take place with the top prize being a chance to help the Town Crier turn the lights on. Each child attending will be given a raffle ticket number.

In addition to the lights there will be carol singers, catering and a Community Award presented by the town council.

 

Sunday, December 12

Welshpool Tractor Run

An evening of illuminated tractors to raise funds in aid of the DJP foundation.

A herd of illuminated tractors will meet at Welshpool Livestock Market where they can be viewed by the public at 4 pm.

The tractors will then leave the market grounds at 5pm and undertake a 30-mile round trip of Welshpool and surrounding areas.

This includes Welshpool High Street, Guilsfield, Arddleen, Four Crosses, Llandrinio, Criggion, Trewern and Buttington, before returning to the Livestock Market at Buttington Cross.
