MALDWYN Harriers Athletics Club was well represented at the Welsh Inter Regional cross country competition at Penlan in Brecon.

A total of 14 juniors descended on the south Powys town for the event.

Harrier stars Deri McCluskey and Maddie Griffiths have also been selected for Wales again and will compete in this weekend’s Liverpool Cross Challenge

A club spokesman said: “It is great to see our youngsters back competing and producing some excellent results.”

Three Harriers returned home with medals.

Llanymynech’s Deri McCluskey claimed gold in the men’s under 17s race with clubmate Aled Breeze from Newtown joining him on the podium in second.

Welshpool star Maddie Griffiths also claimed silver in the women’s under 17s race.

Callum Morgan was also in action in the men’s under 17s race and ended sixth while Caitlyn Bloor ended 13th in the women’s under 17s race.

Finlay Cullen ended sixth in the under 15s boys race with Mackenzie McCourt leading the Harriers’ challenge in the girls race in sixth with Izzy Jones ending 19th and Olivia Garrod 61st.

Henry Farr was the sole representative from the Newtown club in the under 13s boys race and ended 78th.

Maddie Hughes led the challenge in the under 13s girls race and just missed out on a podium spot in fourth while Olivia Morgan ended ninth.

Chardonnay Morgan ended the race in 38th spot while Alice Joyce completed the Harrier challenge in 61st.
