GIRLS’ football in Powys has continued its emergence with a series of festivals this season.

Clubs from across mid Wales were represented across various age groups at the latest fun festival held at Berriew Football Club’s Talbot Field earlier this month.

As well as the host club, more than 100 players from sides from Newtown White Stars, TNS, Llanidloes Town, Welshpool Town, Llandrindod Wells and Aberystwyth Town descended on the Rhiewside ground for a day of friendly competition.

The regular festivals have been hosted by different clubs from the region throughout the season and geared toward developing the next generation of senior players with the view of more clubs entering competitive leagues in north Wales and nationally.

Organiser Paul Inns said: “Berriew Football Club hosted another successful Powys Girls Football Festival with 24 teams in attendance across the age groups from under six to under 16.

“It was a fantastic days football – many thanks to all the teams who participated from Berriew, Llandrindod Wells, Llanidloes Town, TNS, Aberystwyth Town, Newtown and Welshpool Town football clubs. It was lovely to see so many girls playing football – and just having fun.

“The festivals take place approximately every two weeks, rotating around clubs in the locality.

“All the clubs who took part are keen not encourage more girls to take up football – if any girls would like to give it a try, they are welcome to email me on paulinns@hanrattylaw.com, and I will put them in touch with their nearest club.”
