BUILTH Wells have made a double signing to boost their ranks in the Admiral National League Two West Central.

Versatile wing and centre Lex Botha has returned to the club from Indigo Group Premiership club Pontypridd while the Bulls have also welcomed the arrival of Darren Whitcombe from local rivals Brecon.

Meanwhile veteran prop Neil Jerman has also returned to the squad ahead of the next fixture.

The Bulls suffered a disappointing defeat in their season opener at home to Resolven last week and will bid for better fortunes at Porthcawl on Saturday.

Coach Ben Duggan was disappointed and called upon his troops to improve this weekend as the club strive to kickstart their campaign.

Duggan said: “From a game that we looked so confident in up 21-14 with 15 minutes to go, some pointless indiscipline and poor game management crept in and with an interception try and two yellow cards we found ourselves 11 points down to finish.

“We played some good rugby at times against a tough Resolven team and we’re in control for long periods of it, but we fell apart in the tail end of the game.

“If we are to anywhere achieve our ambitions this year of title contenders we must seriously improve our standards at the business end of games.”

Duggan hopes the new blood will boost a squad that has already been hit by a number of injuries.

Back rowers Ryan Beehan, Rob Powell and Matt Duggan are out for two months while centres Tom Samuel, Rhys Lewis and Luke Morgan will be out for another few weeks.

Meanwhile vice captain Ben Pugh and full back Gethin Lewis have been ruled out until next February.

Duggan added: “We’ve been pretty unlucky with injuries in the last few months which has really tested the depth of our squad.”
