People in Newtown will take to the streets this weekend demanding global climate justice as world leaders meet in Glasgow for the Cop26 summit.

A march and cycle ride organised by Climate Action Newtown will go through the town on Saturday, November 6, as part of the 'Global Day of Action for Cop26'.

Cyclists will start their journey from Bike to the Future near The Hafren Theatre at 9.30am, and then the walkers will meet at the park outside the Oriel Davies Gallery at 10am.

A petition will then be handed to Craig Williams MP and Russell George MS at The Cross near Costa Coffee at 10.30am.

The petition calls on the UK and Welsh Governments to immediately end all fossil fuel subsidies and exploration. It also asks the governments to make "more ambitious" commitments to Cop26 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Other events marking the Global Day of Action include an exhibition of children's artwork in the window of the former Clubsport shop in Broad Street and a stall inside Bear Lanes Shopping Centre

Towns and villages across Powys such as Llanidloes, Machynlleth, and Llanfyllin are also planning events on Saturday.
