MORE heavy rain is expected across Powys on Sunday and into Monday morning, while there are multiple flood warnings across Wales.

The Met Office is warning of more heavy rain across south Wales on Sunday, as well as a separate warning for rain across Powys, north Wales and Ceredigion between the early hours of Sunday and Monday morning.

Heavy rain today is accompanied by squally winds that will soon clear to the east. After a brief brighter, less windy interlude, showers or longer spells of rain will soon return from the west. Gales are developing, especially in coastal areas.

Showers, some heavy, will continue to affect much of the country tonight, perhaps merging into longer spells of rain across north Wales. Gales, perhaps severe at first, will last well into the night.

Natural Resources Wales has issued two flood alerts and 28 flood warnings – though Mid Wales is largely unaffected for now.

The Rivers Bran and Gwydderig at Llandovery, just south of Llanwrtyd Wells, have had flood warnings put in place.

The combination of ground conditions, existing river levels and forecast rainfall quantities gives a high risk of flooding of low-lying land over the weekend.

On Monday, meanwhile, expect more showers throughout the day, some heavy, with maybe even some hail and thunder, but there will also be some sunny spells in between. There will be strong to gale force winds at first, which will ease through the day.

For Tuesday to Thursday there will be a mixture of sunshine and showers, the showers mainly in coastal areas. It is expected to be drier on Thursday.
