Newtown councillors have pledged to use their position to help encourage the environment in the town after a motion brought forward at a council meeting on Monday.
The motion, brought forward by former Mayor David Selby and seconded by his successor, Richard Williams, comes amid debate in Parliament on the Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill.
That bill asks the UK to take responsibility for its share of greenhouse gas emissions, to restore habitats in the UK, and to find ways to stop damage to the environment.
The motion passed by Newtown & Llanllwchaiarn Town Council saw councillors pledge to take action to improve the ecological landscape of the town.
Under the terms of the motion, the council must demonstrate its commitment to protecting Newtown's environment, biodiversity and wildlife, review its ground maintenance procedures, and ainclude these issues within the remit of the climate emergency lead councillors.
