Rugby players at three mid Wales clubs will be growing moustaches throughout November to raise money and awareness for men’s health.

Llanidloes, Newtown and Welshpool Rugby Clubs are joining together for the popular annual fundraiser Movember for local mental health charity Ponthafren Association.

Julia Gorman, operations manager at Ponthafren, said: “It is really fantastic to see rugby rivalries put aside to highlight the importance of men’s mental health.

“We have seen a number of unfortunate incidents in mid Wales lately, and it is essential that we get men talking.”

All three clubs have been getting their communities involved with mixed ability rugby, but Welshpool RFC have led the way and have been running walk and talk rugby since the summer.

Huw Williams, who is involved with both Welshpool RFC and Ponthafren, said: “It has been a great way for people to play rugby and keep fit, but the sessions are as much about checking in on talking about mental health and wellbeing as they are about keeping active.”

The month will finish with a local derby between Newtown and Welshpool on the November 27 which will include a fundraiser for Ponthafren.
