A long-serving Royal British Legion Standard Bearer from Llanidloes has set herself the challenge to visit as many memorials in mid and west Wales.

Trudy Davies has dedicated 40 years to carrying the distinctive flag of the Royal British Legion (RBL) on significant national occasions such as Remembrance Sunday and VE Day.

As homage to the people from mid and west Wales who have died in conflict, Trudy decided that her she would go on a "personal quest" to mark four decades of voluntary service with the RBL Llanidloes Women's Section.

Since January 1, Trudy has visited 57 memorials in mid and west Wales and three in England.

"My duties as a standard bearer due to Covid, lockdowns and work commitments I knew would be limited, with RBL instructions, but I wanted to mark this very special personal year for me by attempting to visit and place my own cross and poppy at significant places around mid and west Wales.

"Some memorials were inside buildings, chapels, churches and closed during the pandemic so of course were beyond my reach at the time, a couple of the places I visited were even converted into homes or had been demolished, so I placed my poppy and cross close by.

"As part of my 40th year as Standard Bearer for the RBL I wanted to visit during lockdown as many significant places in mid and west Wales, lockdown allowing as I was doing my essential travels, to pay homage to all who have given the ultimate sacrifice since the First World War and also pay tribute to all who have served in the armed forces."

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal British Legion which has been helping serving and ex-serving personnel and their families.
