A new art competition has been launched to celebrate all that is great about Newtown.

Budding artists are being invited to send in pictures showing what they love about the town and surrounding area

Winners will receive a cash prize and be exhibited at the Oriel Davies art gallery and featured in the County Times alongside the runners up.

Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council has launched the “Big Art” competition and to mark the publication of the town’s place plan.

Lead Councillor for the Place Plan, Cllr Richard Edwards: “Everything about Newtown Place Plan is big – from all evidence that was collected to the huge amount of time and energy that the community contributed to get it done.”

“Our Town, Our Plan” shows us a way forward to creating a town where people want to live, work and visit. And now comes Our Newtown: Big Art Competition!”

Pictures can show a favourite place to walk, play or meet friends or a favourite building or place to visit. Or maybe a picture of an inspirational person associated with Newtown. The brighter and more colourful, the better.

There are three age categories: Under 11s where the winner gets £25; 11 to 18-year-olds, prize is £50; and Over 18s which includes a £75 reward.

A photograph of the entries will need to be sent through an online form by Friday, December 3.

Entries will be judged by the Mayor of Newtown and the director of Oriel Davies Gallery.
