A Llandrindod man who headbutted a female police officer in a 'discriminatory' attack has been sent to prison.

Scott Morgan Lloyd, of Hernog Close, Llandrindod, admitted two charges of assaulting an emergency worker by beating, and a further charge of threatening behaviour prior to a sentencing hearing at Salisbury Magistrates Court.

He had elected for summary trial during a hearing in February, but changed his pleas to guilty ahead of a trial due to take place on October 14.

The court was told that, during an incident on August 27, 2020, 30-year-old Lloyd had used threats against a special police constable in Durrington, near Salisbury in Wiltshire.

Then, in another incident on the same day, he had assaulted police sergeant PS2425 Martin in nearby Melksham by headbutting her, before further assaulting another constable, PC2914 Webster.

He was sentenced to 38 days in prison for the assault on PS Martin, and a further 31 days for the assault on PC Webster, to run concurrently.

Sentencing, magistrates noted that: "The court finds that this offence was motivated (wholly or partly) by hostility towards persons who are of a particular sexual orientation.

"The offence is so serious because of your previous record, (it is) the only appropriate sentence for using your head as a weapon."

He was also ordered to pay £150 costs and a victim surcharge of £128.
