A new BBC series is set to get underway later this month - with the cameras set to descend on Machynlleth as former rugby star Gareth Edwards ticks off a bucket list experience.

Gareth and Maureen Edwards are back in a brand new series of the Great Welsh Adventure as they explore the country that they love.

With lockdown over, the childhood sweethearts and national treasures travel across Wales in a new five part series visiting places that mean something to them and trying things they never imagined they’d do.

Kicking off their new adventure, the former Wales rugby player and his wife are in Machynlleth, where Maureen has arranged for Gareth to fulfil his boyhood dream of driving a steam train. She then attempts to overcome her fear of big birds at a local falconry centre before the couples’ competitive side comes out as they get behind the wheel of a rally car.

Speaking in the series, they said; “After a year of being locked down, we’re itching to get out and grab what life has to offer. This time, we’re going on some weekend breaks in the most spectacular places in Wales. We’ll be doing things we enjoy and a few things we’ve never tried before.

“We’re starting in Machynlleth in the beautiful Dyfi Valley. We were married 49 years ago and came to Machynlleth on our honeymoon. It’s the last time we were here. We’re hoping this trip will finally be the chance to leave the last year behind and start to live again.”

Gareth Edwards Great Welsh Adventure is due to air on BBC2 on Tuesday, October 26 at 8.30pm.
