Connah's Quay Nomads 0 Newtown 2

NEWTOWN celebrated one of the results of the season to leave the defending champions stunned in Deeside on Tuesday night.

Connah's Quay Nomads' title defence was left in tatters after Shane Sutton broke the deadlock after 24 minutes before an own goal from Danny Holmes on the stroke of half-time.

A glorious free-kick from the halfway line from Craig Williams failed to be cleared by the home defence and Sutton was on hand to head home.

Holmes headed onto the post after 37 minutes before goalkeeper Dave Jones denied Declan Poole an equaliser as Nomads pressed.

Newtown were in dreamland on the stroke of half-time when Jake Walker broke from midfield to release Nick Rushton's whose low cross from the right was bundled into his own net by Holmes.

Jones saved at the feet of Jamie Insall while Jordan Davies rattled the bar with a free-kick as Nomads looked for a route back into the game after the break.

Insall spurned two openings while Davies also blazed over the bar as Newtown dug in to defend their lead and celebrate climbing to third in the table.
