WELSH brewery giants Brains have announced plans to sell nearly 100 of their pubs, with the portfolio including two in Powys.

Earlier this week, Brains revealed that they were looking to offload a total of 99 pubs across the nation. However, there is a catch for anyone looking to buy one – you'll have to buy all 99 of them.

Anyone looking to take over their local will likely need deep pockets, as the entire portfolio has been listed as one entire package, with offers over £87.3 million being considered for the lot.

The vast majority of the pubs up for sale can be found in South Wales – with Cardiff, Swansea and the Vale of Glamorgan watering holes making up a solid chunk of the list.

But, they are not alone, with pubs from a number of towns in Gwent and Monmouthshire also included in the sale and one in Newport.

In Powys, Rhayader’s the Crown Inn is included in the portfolio, as is the Wellington in Brecon. The Crown tenants, however, have assured their customers the pub is not for sale and they have a lease on the popular town centre watering hole.

Based right in the centre of Rhayader, the Crown Inn has a wealth of character, with lots of original features, a lovely open fireplace, private restaurant and secluded beer garden. The North Street pub has three cosy en-suite rooms attached, all with tea and coffee making facilities, shower rooms and televisions. There is also a function room that can be booked for your special events.

Its location makes it an ideal base for exploring all the fantastic things Rhayader and surrounding Elan Valley has to offer. After a long day of exploring there will be a friendly welcome from staff and a delicious hot meal waiting for you.

Though the pubs are Brains owned, fellow chain Marstons last year signed a 25-year agreement to manage their pubs.

Other areas where pubs are located include Abergavenny, Chepstow, Cwmbran, Caerphilly, Monmouth and Caerleon.

Peter Constantine, of selling agents Avison Young, said: “This is a rare opportunity to acquire a large, high-quality package of public houses located in strong trading positions across Wales.

“They benefit from a secure income stream let to an excellent covenant. We anticipate significant levels of demand as packages of this quality rarely come to the market.”
