Two men have been arrested following the theft of bank cards at a cash-point in Welshpool.

Police have warned members of the public to remain vigilant following an alleged incident in which a card was stolen and used to withdraw cash.

Officers say distraction techniques were used at the cash-point to observe the card owner's PIN number before the theft was carried out.

The men were then were alleged to have withdrawn cash and attempted to make purchases on the cards before being arrested on suspicion of theft on Monday, October 11.

The two males have been arrested and released on bail pending further court proceedings.

"There was some good work carried out by officers yesterday which resulted in two males being arrested on suspicion of theft," said Inspector Jonathan Rees-Jones of Dyfed Powys Police.

"They targeted an individual at the cashpoint and, using distraction techniques, they managed to look over their shoulder and get their pin number.

"We're reminding the public to remain vigilant when withdrawing cash and make sure you're not distracted - Organised Crime Groups and other criminals looking to target people at cash-points know what they're doing and people should be aware not to fall foul of their distraction techniques."
