Incredible drone footage shows extent of the damage caused to Bethel Chapel in Newtown.

Aerial footage captured by amateur photographer Ade Maiden shows the scale of the roof's collapse which happened on September 27.

It shows the roof trusses and slates scattered across the pews inside the 19th Century chapel in New Road.

Ade said: "I took the photos as I thought it was important to archive what remains of that beautiful building and that it shouldn’t of been allowed to deteriorate in the way it has."

It has been two weeks since the roof caved in at the historic chapel which led to an indefinite closure of one of Newtown's busiest roads. There is no indication just yet as to how long New Road will be in place.

Powys County Council confirmed that a demolition programme has been agreed with the building's owner. The timescale of the demolition will be determined between the owner and the contractor appointed to carry out the work.

Calls had been made by Newtown and Llanllwchaiarn Town Council for the building to be repaired before the collapse, amid fears for public safety because of the condition of the property, which was sold to its current owner in 2008.
