A Powys man has been fined £440 after he was court driving at nearly 50mph in a 30 zone near Newtown.

Robert Alun Jones, of Sarn, was convicted via the single justice procedure having pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place on March 16.

On Wednesday, October 6, Llanelli Magistrates Court heard that Jones, aged 58, was driving a Mitsubishi L200 on the A489 through Kerry just before 2.30pm.

Laser equipment set up by police officers clocked his vehicle at 49mph, the limit being 30.

He was fined £440 and ordered to pay costs of £90.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £44, and his licence was endorsed with five points.
