Two men due to be sentenced for drugs offences in Newtown have had their hearing adjourned for a third time.

Kane Carlin, of Birmingham, and Ryan Hudson, from Tamworth, were due to learn their fate today, October 7, having previously pleaded guilty to charges of possession of cannabis with intent to supply in Newtown.

At Welshpool Magistrates Court in August the court was told how on March 29, 2020 a vehicle with the two men had been stopped by police on Pool Road, Newtown where they were said to have been in possession of a bag containing 380.92gms of cannabis, a controlled drug of class B.

Following the hearing at Welshpool Magistrates Court in August, magistrates had sent the matter to the Crown Court for sentencing on September 7, but a mix up with pre-sentencing reports meant that the case was not able to proceed.

At that hearing, his Honour Judge Rowlands had been critical of the length of time which the case had taken to come to court, as in the meantime Carlin had been imprisoned for an unrelated offence.

And the sentencing was put off again this morning, after no CPS prosecutor was available to deal with the case at Mold Crown Court, and while Hudson had appeared in court as instructed, co-accused Carlin did not attend due to being in isolation for Covid-19.

Both defendants will return to Mold Crown Court on Friday, October 29, for sentencing, when they may finally learn their fate.
