A Llanidloes man who was stopped with cocaine in his system has been disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Joshua Luke Dinn, of Foundry Terrace, pleaded guilty to two counts of drug driving relating to an incident which took place in Newtown on March 25.

The court was told that Dinn, aged 23, had been stopped while driving a Ford Fiesta with a passenger on Canal Road in Newtown at around 11pm.

Officers said the defendant presented as "edgy", and was sweating excessively and constantly moving around.

A drugwipe tested positive for cocaine, and he was arrested. A subsequent blood test taken while in custody revealed levels of Benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, of 372ug/ml, exceeding the specified limit of 50ug/ml.

The test also revealed cocaine at levels of 26ug/ml, above the specified limit of 10 ug/ml.

Defending, Mr Robert Hanratty said his client worked as a driver, and had lost his job at a parcel delivery firm following the incident.

He said his client had been in a "state of despair" after hearing that he needed a heart operation, following which he turned to drug use for a "short period in his life."

He was fined £120, and ordered to pay costs of £85. He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £34.
