NEWTOWN celebrated a fantastic weekend with a 31-13 home win over old rivals Llanidloes in the WRU Bowl.

The match formed part of the home club’s hospitality day for sponsors with a bumper gate descending on the Recreation Ground.

Club spokesman Dai Davies said: “What a great day. A full clubhouse, before and after the game, two excellent wins, good old fashioned socialising, meeting old friends, making new ones, plenty of banter with the Llani contingent.

“Too many names to be individually thanked so to each and everyone of you involved in the planning and implementation sincere thanks. Diolch o galon.”

Tries from Tom Parry, Joe Hughes, Will Whittington, Freddie Jones and Rhys Morris with three conversions from Will Holloway won the day for Town while Llani stayed in contention with a try from Mike Silvester, converted by Mason Jones who also added two penalties.

Meanwhile COBRA IIs slipped to a 22-16 defeat at Bro Gwernant in th WRU Shield.

Tries from Jac Roberts and Ben Davies along with three penalties from Rhodri Davies were not enough for the men from Meifod.

Newtown strolled to a 20-0 win over Mold in a youth fixture with Kieron Evans crossing for two tries while Finley Jones and Rubeb Lovett tries completed the scoring for the hosts.

Elsewhere COBRA youth strolled to a 68-7 win at Rhyl.

Rob Irving led the scoring with three tries with Tom Griffiths, Hari Davies, Lewis Wilde, Lewis Thomas, Wil Lydford, and Aled Davies also crossing with Iestyn Pryce kicking five conversions and a penalty
